HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from the first practice session at the Dutch Grand Prix
It was a Mercedes one-two in the first practice session at this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, as George Russell set the early pace ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton in Zandvoort.
On the soft tyre, Russell set a time of 1m 12.455s to lead Hamilton, in second, by 0.240s. Carlos Sainz, in the Ferrari, was third fastest, a further 0.390s behind the Silver Arrows racer, with Lando Norris in fourth.
Daniel Ricciardo was fifth fastest ahead of the other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc in sixth. It was not the start to the weekend that Red Bull would have wanted, as while Sergio Perez was in seventh, home hero Max Verstappen stopped on track with a transmission issue, bringing out the red flags.
