Carlos Sainz topped the timesheets of the second practice session at this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, leading the way ahead of Max Verstappen to cap a productive first day of running for Ferrari at Monza.
On his qualifying simulation run, Sainz set a time of 1m 21.664s to lead Verstappen by 0.143s. The other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc was third fastest, 0.193s behind his team mate, ahead of Lando Norris in P4.
Sergio Perez was sixth, sandwiched in between the Mercedes drivers of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, in P5 and P7, respectively. They were followed by the Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, in P8 and P9, respectively.
FP2: Sainz leads Verstappen and Leclerc in second Monza practice session
There was a brief red flag in FP2, after Haas's Mick Schumacher was forced to pull over to the side of the road on the exit of Turn 5 after a power unit issue.
