F2: Crawford narrowly beats Martins to pole position in Jeddah

Jak Crawford beat Victor Martins in a tightly contested Formula 2 Jeddah Qualifying to take Pole Position on Friday evening, sealing a P1 start for Sunday’s Feature Race.
The DAMS Lucas Oil driver left it until his final lap of the day to complete a 1m 43.579s, which was good enough to beat the Williams Driver Academy member to top spot by 0.022s.
Martins had been on provisional pole, but he was forced to settle for second place ahead of Invicta Racing driver, and Drivers’ Championship leader, Leonardo Fornaroli in third.
Luke Browning had also been on provisional pole before a red flag stoppage caused by Van Amersfoort Racing’s John Bennett crashing into the barrier at Turn 17. However, the Hitech TGR driver ended up in fourth place.
Arvid Lindblad was the pacesetter after the first set of push laps, but the Campos Racing driver finished fifth, while his team mate and fellow Red Bull junior Josep María Martí was seventh.
Sandwiched between the pair in P6 was Feature Race winner from Bahrain Alexander Dunne for Rodin Motorsport, the McLaren Development Programme member continuing his promising start to his rookie campaign.
