Jak Crawford helped DAMS Lucas Oil to a Monte Carlo sweep, winning the Formula 2 Feature Race in dramatic fashion after two red flags.

The American driver profited from a late-race crash to leapfrog his way up the order from P4 on the road, completing his mandatory stop with a well-timed decision to pit as the Safety Car was deployed.

The fortuitous timing allowed him to get in and out while the cars ahead caught the Safety Car. Once everyone had completed their stops, the Aston Martin Development Driver emerged ahead before a second red flag of the day ended an already shortened event.

At the original race start, polesitter Alexander Dunne lost the lead to front row starter Victor Martins, but the pair collided at Turn 1, pitching both into the barriers. Several drivers were unable to avoid the Rodin Motorsport and ART Grand Prix cars at Sainte Devote, and eight cars were out on the spot and the red flag was thrown.

After a delay, the race got back underway with a rolling restart, with Leonardo Fornaroli leading Sebastián Montoya and Arvid Lindblad the majority of the way.

In the closing stages of the Feature Race, Dino Beganovic hit the wall at the exit of Turn 1, and crashed at Casino Square, bringing out the Safety Car Crawford was able to take advantage of.

Fornaroli, Montoya and Lindblad completed their stops one lap later and came out behind the DAMS driver.

The American’s win moves him up to fifth in the Standings, while Hitech TGR and Williams Racing Academy Driver Luke Browning was able to move ahead and take the lead of the Drivers’ Championship as a result of Dunne’s retirement.
