F2: Duerksen sweeps Monza weekend in Invicta Racing 1-2

Joshua Duerksen made it two race wins from two around Monza, winning the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race and leading home an Invicta Racing 1-2.

The Paraguayan driver started from P2 but took an early lead after team mate and polesitter Rafael Camara ran across Turn 2 on the opening lap, but the duelling Invictas then traded blows.

The lead changed hands multiple times before Duerksen pitted at the first opportunity to make the switch to soft tyres.

Camara opted to continue for a handful of laps but once the Brazilian made his pit stop, he emerged onto the track behind his team mate.

From there, Duerksen was in control, managing the gap behind and handling a mid-race Safety Car restart to retain his advantage out in front.

A late-race push from Camara put Duerksen under pressure, but the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy talent couldn’t find a way past before the chequered flag.

It marked Duerksen’s eighth win in F2, equalling the record jointly held by Felipe Drugovich, Nyck de Vries and Artem Markelov.

Camara took an important 18 points in the championship fight to move himself up to second in the standings and to within 11 points of leader Nikola Tsolov, who finished P7.

Noel Leon rounded out the podium for Campos Racing ahead of John Bennett and Ritomo Miyata in the top five.
