FORMULA 3: Pulcini pounces at Silverstone for first win of the season

Leonardo Pulcini made it double delight for Hitech Grand Prix at Silverstone, following up the team’s Race 1 success with his first win of the season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship. The Italian racer denied Championship leader Robert Shwartzman victory
Pulcini had begun behind the Russian, but took advantage of the PREMA man’s stuttered start to lunge ahead midway through the first lap for fourth. The scalps of Christian Lundgaard and Pedro Piquet followed before he zoned in on reverse grid polesitter Liam Lawson. The Italian’s next move was more calculated and he patiently waited for two more tours of Silverstone, before searing down the right of the MP Motorsport man.
Shwartzman remained in fifth, locked in battle with the other two PREMAs behind him. He chose attack over defence and swung past Lundgaard ahead of him, which wobbled the Dane and allowed Jehan Daruvala through as well.
The Russian had been unleashed and used his pace advantage to fight ahead of Piquet and Lawson for P2 within two more laps. Pulcini would prove one overtake too far though, having fired to a 5s lead. Second was enough to extend his Championship lead to 114 points, 12 ahead of Daruvala.
