HIGHLIGHTS: Catch up on FP1 from Sao Paulo as Norris leads Piastri and Hulkenberg
Lando Norris set the quickest lap time during Free Practice 1 at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Lando Norris set the pace during the first and only practice session of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend, the Briton just pipping fellow McLaren racer Oscar Piastri in the final moments to go fastest.
With the Sprint format making its penultimate appearance of the season, the drivers were quick to hit the track when Friday’s sole practice hour got underway, leading to a busy session as the field looked to fine-tune their cars.
While Piastri headed the timesheets for much of the session, Norris went quickest as the chequered flag fell on a lap of 1m 09.975s, beating the other McLaren by 0.023s. Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg followed in a eye-catching third, ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and home favourite Gabriel Bortoleto.
Yuki Tsunoda, meanwhile, had a bit of a moment early in the session, the Red Bull driver hitting the barriers after spinning off the track, while team mate Max Verstappen did not set a final flying lap down in P17.
