HIGHLIGHTS: Relive the drama-filled Sao Paulo GP as Norris takes victory over Antonelli and Verstappen
Lando Norris consolidated his place at the top of the drivers’ standings with a commanding win at Interlagos.
Lando Norris avoided a myriad of incidents to secure victory in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, beating Kimi Antonelli and a charging Max Verstappen to extend his lead in the championship battle.
The McLaren driver got a better launch than Antonelli both at lights out and on the Safety Car restart, which was prompted by Gabriel Bortoleto crashing out of his home race on the opening lap.
From then, Norris controlled the field well, even with a superb drive from Verstappen. Starting from the pit lane, and bouncing back from an early puncture, the Dutchman did everything right to surge to a podium finish and crossed the line just three-tenths behind Antonelli.
The most significant incident involved Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc and Antonelli as they went three-wide at Turn 1 at the Safety Car restart before the Australian locked up, sending the Mercedes into Leclerc’s car. The Monegasque was forced to retire his Ferrari from the race and Piastri was handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision, contributing to his P5 result.
