While Alonso scrapped for a fourth rostrum in five races, eventually coming home behind Red Bull pair Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, a long afternoon in the South Florida sun for Stroll resulted in 12th – just a couple of seconds away from a point.
Stroll’s drive included a smart move on Williams rival Alex Albon into Turn 1, which two-time world champion Alonso saw coming as he impressively followed the action via the television screens at the side of the track.
