ONBOARD: ‘Max Verstappen you are the world champion’ – Relive the moment the Red Bull driver claimed his 1st title
“You are the world champion” – for a professional sportsperson, five-word phrases don’t come much sweeter than that. And it was those words that Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner had the pleasure of calling down the airwaves, following Max Verstappen’s sensational maiden title win at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Verstappen beat title rival Lewis Hamilton in a thrilling Abu Dhabi Grand Prix set-to, the pair going mano a mano on the very last lap of the championship, before Verstappen used his fresh soft rubber to execute a clinical pass on the Briton at Turn 5, before crossing the line to win both the race and the World Championship.
Relive Verstappen’s life-altering moment in the video up top, as Red Bull claimed their first title since 2013.
