He hadn’t been on the top step of the podium since the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix – but everything played beautifully into Valtteri Bottas’ hands at the Sochi Autodrom on race day, as he secured the ninth win of his career, and his second at this venue.

But there was just one happy Mercedes driver at the Russian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton handed two five-second penalties for practice start infringements that left him third at the flag, behind a delighted Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.
