
Patrick Head – the technical mastermind behind Williams' F1 success

Four decades ago, a man was wheeled into the press tent at Brands Hatch during the 1986 British Grand Prix meeting. He was dressed in the red, yellow and blue uniform of the Canon Williams team, and he had a familiar, slightly shy smile as he looked up.
He had quite a long way to look, because literally everyone else in there was standing and clapping. I’d bet there were a lot of prickly eyes in that emotive moment, as we welcomed Francis Owen Garbett Williams back into the fold.
