Perez self-isolating after inconclusive Covid-19 test ahead of the British Grand Prix

Racing Point driver Sergio Perez is self-isolating following what the team called an ‘inconclusive’ test for Covid-19.

All personnel currently attending Grands Prix are required to undergo constant testing to ensure the safety of all staff. And on Thursday Racing Point confirmed that Perez was not at the circuit, following an inconclusive test result.

"He is self-isolating awaiting the results of a re-test," the team said.

Perez’s absence left team mate Lance Stroll to field questions on behalf of the team at the pre-race press conference.

Per a Racing Point spokesperson, a small group of team members that were in contact with Perez are self-isolating as a precaution and being re-tested, as is standard procedure.

It’s the first time such a scenario has taken place since the revised 2020 season got underway in Austria in July, though regardless of the re-test outcome the race is expected to go ahead as planned.

It is understood Racing Point have an agreement with Mercedes to have access to their reserve drivers – Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez – if required.
