The hometown hero is on pole, but can Charles Leclerc make it third time lucky and go on to record his first victory and, indeed, his first podium on the streets of the Principality?
He’s certainly in the best spot to do so – overtaking opportunities being few and far between around the Circuit de Monaco – but behind him he has an ambitious team-mate, two super-quick McLarens and a resurgent Mercedes. And then there’s Max Verstappen. After eight straight pole positions, the Dutchman has cut a subdued figure all weekend and starts P6. Is this an off-week for the reigning World Champion – or will seeing five cars lined-up in front simply poke the bear?
