Teams will be given the chance to sample Pirelli’s new-for-2016 ultrasoft tyre compound at a one-day test in Abu Dhabi immediately after the final race of the season.
The test, which was requested by the Italian tyre firm in order to develop a new construction for the 2016 slick tyres, as well as to trial the ultrasoft compound, will take place on Tuesday December 1 from 0900 - 2100 after being ratified by the FIA World Council.
Participation in the test is voluntary, with the teams - who are not allowed to trial new parts or alter their cars during the Pirelli-defined test programme - being asked to run race or reserve drivers.
The ultrasoft compound, which will form part of Pirelli’s expanded 2016 slick tyre range, will be distinguished by purple markings on the sidewall. This colour was chosen by fans who were asked to vote for either purple or silver via Pirelli’s social media channels. Purple was a resounding winner, capturing 85% of the votes.
