Charles Leclerc stayed out of trouble on the dramatic opening lap of the Miami Grand Prix as he sailed into the lead, demoting polesitter Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen, with the Dutchman spinning out and tumbling down the order.
Eager to shake off his previous series of slow starts, Antonelli instantly got stuck into a three-wide battle with Verstappen and Leclerc heading down to Turn 1 before the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers both locked up their tyres, allowing the Monegasque through to claim first place.
While Antonelli drifted wide and narrowly clung onto P2, Verstappen suffered a spin and dropped down the order, leaving him with an uphill battle to return to the podium positions.
Elsewhere, the second Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton made brief contact with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto as he fought to recover lost positions, eventually making his way back past by the end of the lap.
