The Williams team confirmed on Christmas Eve that their former chief Sir Frank Williams had been discharged from hospital after a short stay, and was now recovering at home.
A statement from Williams on December 15 revealed that Sir Frank had been admitted to hospital in a stable condition for a private medical matter – with the team releasing a further short announcement on December 24 confirming that Williams had now been discharged and was “on the mend at home”.
Williams racer George Russell, who wore a helmet at the recent Abu Dhabi Grand Prix season finale paying tribute to the team Sir Frank co-founded in 1977, reacted to the announcement on Twitter, writing: “Great news”.
It comes at the end of a year which saw the Williams family relinquish control of the team established as Williams Grand Prix Engineering 43 ago, with American investment firm Dorilton Capital having purchased the squad back in August, while confirming that the team would continue on under the Williams banner.
