Spain’s official Grand Prix has had a peripatetic and multi-faceted history.
The first pukka Spanish Grand Prix, run at Sitges, fell to Albert Divo’s Sunbeam in 1923 and the 1927 race at Lasarte, inevitably won by Robert Benoist’s Delage, was part of the AIACR (Association Internationale des Automobile Clubs Reconnus) World Manufacturers' Championship – effectively the forerunner of today’s Formula 1 World Championship.
