WATCH: Masi fields calls from Wolff and Horner as tensions run high – it’s the best team radio from Silverstone
Lewis Hamilton got back to winning ways at Silverstone, with his eighth victory at his home race. But there was drama aplenty well before he crossed the line to take the chequered flag – and even more across the weekend as a whole.
George Russell was delighted with his second consecutive Q3 appearance in qualifying, the only man potentially happier than Hamilton himself who grabbed P1 with a storming lap that nearly had his Race Engineer Pete ‘Bono’ Bonnington lost for words.
Fernando Alonso lit up proceedings at the start of the Sprint with a brilliant getaway, putting on a “show” for his team before coining a new name for F1’s 17-lap dash. Charles Leclerc was forced to stay calm under pressure when he started suffering power issues while leading the Grand Prix itself, while Kimi Raikkonen couldn't see the positives after a late spin.
But spare a thought for FIA Race Director Michael Masi, who had to contend with not one but two very passionate Team Principals who both robustly defended their charges after Hamilton and Max Verstappen crashed on the first lap.
