Carlos Sainz proved to be the fastest man in France on the opening day of running at Circuit Paul Ricard, with the Spaniard leading the way in the second practice session ahead of his team mate Charles Leclerc.
With temperatures already high in Le Castellet, Sainz brought the heat on Friday afternoon, setting a time of 1m 32.527s on six-lap-old soft tyres, to lead Leclerc by 0.101s. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen set the third fastest time in FP2 but found himself 0.550s behind Sainz’s time.
