Lando Norris was once again the man to beat in qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as he surged to pole position ahead of his team mate Oscar Piastri and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, teeing McLaren up perfectly in fulfilling their constructors' title dreams.
The Briton did not lack competition in the tight session, with Max Verstappen and a powerful Haas at the hands of Nico Hulkenberg both challenging for the top spot, but it was the McLaren driver who set a remarkable final lap of 1m 22.595s.
This effort cleared his team mate by over two-tenths, granting Norris his eighth pole position of the 2024 season and giving McLaren a strong opportunity to extend their lead over Ferrari once and for all, rounding off their most competitive year in recent memory.
