George Russell set an 'exhilarating' lap to claim his maiden pole position of the 2025 campaign, which will leave him alongside Max Verstappen on the front row for the Canadian Grand Prix.
George Russell set an 'exhilarating' lap to claim his maiden pole position of the 2025 campaign, which will leave him alongside Max Verstappen on the front row for the Canadian Grand Prix.
With his Mercedes fitted on the medium Pirelli tyre, Russell posted a 1m 10.899s with his final run which left him more than a tenth-and-a-half clear of Verstappen in the final classification.

The Briton improved by several tenths with his final attempt compared with his first effort around the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, and although Verstappen and Drivers' Championship leader Oscar Piastri also improved, Russell will start from pole for the first time since Qatar last season.
